James Michael Tyler, who played Gunther on “Friends”, has died at the age of 59, a friend has confirmed.
Mr Tyler played the surveillance-camera-obsessed actor opposite Lisa Kudrow’s Phoebe Buffay on the hit show for two seasons.
“He was an enormous part of all of our lives,” a close friend of Mr Tyler’s told the Associated Press news agency.
He became well known for his scenes on “Friends” as the overly sensitive deliveryman.
Just over a year ago, he told US TV station CBS This Morning that he still had fears of frightening people in public.
He was known to play the late Teller in the reality show “American Gladiators”.
Mr Tyler appeared on numerous TV shows and movies, including “Baby Talk”, “Childrens Hospital” and “Death Sentence”, as well as the 2005 film “The Final Destination”.
He was a son of actor William Tyler, who starred in early TV shows such as The Twilight Zone.
