Story highlights Stephen Miller is one of the most powerful people in the Trump administration.
He was one of Donald Trump’s earliest White House hires and was also a big part of his “America First” campaign.
Miller is in the headlines for a lot of very different reasons lately. In addition to speaking up for Trump’s anti-Muslim tweets and calling out his critics on Twitter, Miller has also been charged with the ultra-rare task of blocking certain members of the media.
CNN’s Laura Ingraham is one such person who’s been silenced from watching the White House. So is another CNN network correspondent, Jim Acosta.
Still, the person who put Miller in his current position could have blocked that particular reporter from covering the White House, but the president himself didn’t think it was appropriate. And why not?
The people who worked for the President — aides, then the President himself — will always have a very close relationship with the man who put them in their current roles.
For this reason, Miller has become one of the most powerful people in the White House and the man who may be most responsible for putting Trump in the Oval Office.
AFL-CIO president Richard Trumka didn’t entirely disagree with the decision to block reporters, calling it an “extraordinary thing to do by a president.”
“You’d think the president of the United States would do whatever he felt comfortable with,” Trumka said at CNN’s town hall last month.
He was just as forceful when discussing what he didn’t like about President Trump, citing him as an example of a president “running roughshod over the rule of law” and of the “deep corruption of Washington.”
“What I am alarmed about is that he operates in a way that creates the fear of democracy,” Trumka added.
As for Miller? Trumka said he knows “they hate Steve Bannon, but they fear him.”
